Kathleen Barratt, Founder

Kathleen has over 30 years’ professional experience in facilitating and teaching breathwork. In the early 1980s, she developed an interest in breathwork as a dynamic tool for healing and transformation. She trained in various breathwork methods that encouraged hyperventilation and strong emotional catharsis. Over time, she found herself being drawn to a subtler approach to the breath, inspired by her studies in bioenergy with Mietek and Margaret Wirkus. Stepping away from systems that placed control upon the breath, she has developed a more yin approach to breathwork that has its roots in the Eastern systems of breath meditation. The core premise of Kathleen's work is not about mastering a breath technique; rather it is about cultivating a relationship of receptivity and openness with the natural breath. This unique approach to breathwork not only rejuvenates the mind and body but also opens a gateway to transpersonal dimensions of healing. Kathleen's breathwork system, Restorative Breathwork®, has evolved out of years of study, personal practice, and experience with thousands of clients.

Kathleen possesses the unique ability to translate the esoteric theories and philosophies of the Eastern science of breath into a language that is easily comprehended. Kathleen has conducted workshops and trainings in Restorative Breathwork throughout the United States, including at the Edgar Cayce’s A.R.E. (Association for Research and Enlightenment), in Virginia Beach, Virginia; and the International Society for the Study of Subtle Energies and Energy Medicine Conference in Boulder Colorado. She also participated in the Elizabeth Targ Research Project, an exploration of the influence of Bioenergy distance healing on AIDS patients at the California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco. Kathleen holds a Master Certificate in Bioenergy Healing through the Wirkus School of Bioenergy. Since 1988, she has offered both personal and professional studies in breathwork through her foundation, Barratt Breath Institute.
